August is an interesting time of year, especially in Minnesota. We start to see signs of seasonal change (and that's not just with the weather). People begin prepping for this change - be it school, sports, work, or just transitioning from summer to fall. Uncertainty is in the air and is met with anticipation, possibly some anxiety, but most definitely, excitement.
Here at VOBS, we're prepping for our season change in a lot of ways. Our Texas crew is preparing for the journey back south, summer crews are wrapping up, and the dogs are itching to get training for the winter. We're saying goodbye to old friends and welcoming new ones. 'Tis the season and we're loving it!

“If we were meant to stay in one place, we'd have roots instead of feet.” —Rachel Wolchin
"Though the Rio Grande and its high desert and canyon environs constitute a wildly different landscape from Minnesota’s Northwoods, both settings have one thing in common: they are equally powerful contexts forchanging lives through challenge and discovery.
Our Big Bend wilderness base is the starting point for life-changing experiences... Whether you’re going out with us for six days or 60, you will arrive in
Big Bend and immediately be Outward Bound.
THINGS WE LOVE:
August's Legendary Voyageur: Arlene Blum PhD., biophysical chemist, author, and mountaineer is Executive Director of the Green Science Policy Institute and a Research Associate in Chemistry at UC Berkeley. Blum’s research and policy work has contributed to preventing the use of flame retardants and other harmful chemicals in children’s sleepwear, furniture, electronics, and other products world-wide.
Join us for beer ($1 of every Flagship beer purchased between 3:00-10:00 p.m. goes back to VOBS), win some Outward Bound swag, and pay it forward by writing a postcard to a future student!
P.S. This is a dog-friendly taproom so we'll have a special four-legged guest joining us! Stay tuned!
