Attention Partner Organizations, Students and Families!

Voyageur Outward Bound School is launching a new opportunity:
VOBS is very grateful to work with students in our partner schools and nonprofits.

We love designing and delivering group programs just for our students, but sometimes we can't serve all students with just one partnership program. That's why we are creating a new opportunity for partner students who cannot join a scheduled VOBS partnership program this summer.

This summer, we are inviting individual students in our partner schools and nonprofits to sign up for a longer Minnesota wilderness leadership expedition (trip) of their choice this summer, tuition free!
Who can become a VOBS Scholar and enroll tuition free?
  • Students in VOBS partner schools or youth-serving organizations.
  • Students aged 14-18.
  • Students who do not plan to attend a VOBS partnership program this summer*.

*Families and students, if you are unsure, ask your school or nonprofit if your student is already scheduled to join a VOBS partnership program this summer.
How do I become a VOBS Scholar?
  • The Portal provides step-by-step directions to sign up.
  • Our Admissions team is ready and waiting to help.
  • Got questions? Reach out to Tessa in Admissions: tessa.olson@vobs.org
This is Tessa-- she's very friendly!
Why Should I Go Outward Bound this summer?
  • Outward Bound is an inclusive leadership program, designed for you.
  • Outward Bound meets you where you are at, NO experience necessary!
  • Outward Bound is a great way to prepare for college or training programs.
  • Outward Bound looks great on your college or job application.
  • Outward Bound builds leadership skills to thrive in school, work and life.
  • Outward Bound provides a hands-on, in-person experience with peers.
  • Outward Bound is an adventure, and a meaningful way to reclaim a sense of belonging, strength and purpose.
What do I need to know?
  • Your course is free and we're waiving the enrollment fee.
  • Enrollment is first come, first-served until VOBS uses up scholarship funds.
  • No more than two students from your same school or nonprofit may enroll on one leadership course; the VOBS Admissions team will let you know if the course is full and help you select another course.
  • No experience necessary. Seriously. VOBS will teach you everything you need to know.
  • Don't think you have the right gear? Don't worry, we've got you covered. Just tell your Admissions Advisor if you don't have something that's on the packing list and we'll supply it.
  • Worried about getting to Duluth to start your course? Our Admissions team can help you figure out how to get to Duluth, where your Instructors will pick you up.
Where do the courses take place?
  • Your adventure will take place in the most beautiful parts of Minnesota wilderness: the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the St. Croix River, or the Superior Hiking Trail.
  • Visit the VOBS Scholar Portal for detailed information on your course area.
Set course for leadership & adventure this summer!
