Greetings VOBSters,

It's November! We can hardly believe it. Just a few short months ago, we were knee-deep in discussions about how to run programs safely during a pandemic. We asked questions, did research and made decisions. Then we re-examined, researched some more, adapted, and adapted again. But it was sooo worth it! We welcomed over 60 students on course with us this fall and over 100 students via virtual VOBS.

The Outward Bound "crew, not passengers," edict has been so very apt for the VOBS team for the last six months. We are proud of our crew, and honored that our community has jumped into the canoe with us and paddled like mad. Thank you for leading with compassion and helping us change lives through challenge and discovery (and hard work). Your support-- words of encouragement, stories of inspiration, and donations--mean the world to us, and you are making Outward Bound possible for the next generation of leaders. Thank you!

In adventure,
Your VOBS Crew
IN THEIR OWN WORDS

"The Pathfinder Canoeing & Backpacking course I just experienced was one of the most challenging, memorable, and transformative months of my life. Not only did I learn wilderness skills, I gained perspective on what kind of family member, friend, leader, and human I want to be. Throughout the course, I learned to lead by example, be an active follower and ultimately put my team first. I hope to apply these learnings at home, and actively contribute to my community. I will remember that every mountain we climb, we must come down, every emotion will pass and being fully present is rare."
-Peyton, VOBS Alum
Things We Love:
  • Mindfulness Moments: "Challenges in life happen but sometimes help us grow. Reflect on a difficulty you've had & how it helped you grow or become healthier." (Check out Learn To Live for more mindfulness moments and online programs to help manage stress, anxiety and more.)
  • What My Sled Dogs Taught Me About Planning for the Unknown - "Working with them in the wilderness means negotiating countless shifting variables. Sounds a lot like the world we’re living in."
  • These New York Times spotlight on resilience articles.
YOU ASKED AND WE LISTENED...

We're over half-way there!! These one-of-a-kind shirts will only be available until November 17th... Get 'em while you can!
Compassion is my compass...

"... because what you put out into the world is what you receive from the world."
- Anabelle, VOBS Alum

"... because I enjoy motivating and inspiring people ever day."
- Henry, VOBS Alum

"... because I want people to be treated the way I want to be treated."
- Kate, VOBS Alum

"... because helping others makes me feel good, and helps the group move forward."
- Lukas, VOBS Alum
2020 Development Goal Tracker
Like our students, we do not build a more compassionate and resilient world alone; we build the future together. This year has been very tough, but it has taught us that every individual can make a contribution to solve problems, achieve goals and pursue dreams.
Join our crew. Make a contribution.

Together, we can build a more resilient and compassionate world.

Help us reach our $1.8M goal for 2020!
