Boundary Waters Dog Sledding Expedition; Photo credit: William Durland
Greetings VOBSters,

Each year at VOBS, as December comes to a close, students and instructors embark into the wilderness for our first courses of the winter season, either dog sledding in the snow-covered Boundary Waters of Minnesota or Backpacking/Canoeing in desert of Big Bend, Texas. They venture into the wilderness wide-eyed and hopeful, many exploring that terrain for the very first time. They ring in a new year, in an environment likely outside of their usual daily routine and depart on their expedition, ready to reflect on the year they had and embrace the year to come.

These are truly magical courses, both for students and staff, as it marks such an important transition for all of us. It's a new season, a new year, and with our truly exceptional crew we are ready to take on what 2022 has in store. We look forward to you joining us throughout the year in so many different ways and are so grateful for all you continue to give to VOBS.

Cheers to 2022!

Gratefully,
Your VOBS Crew

A Season For Appreciation
Appreciation is an act of generosity, and a gift. It is also a tool for self-actualization. When we consistently value others, we exercise our own voice and perspective, and we connect with others to grow belonging and discover shared purpose. And there’s a nice side effect: the act of appreciating another person pays dividends for both the giver and receiver. Both brains get dual doses of serotonin and dopamine, flooding us with happiness and increasing the resilience of our vagus nerve, thereby strengthening the physical connection between our hearts and our minds. It is marvelous, and true!
So get ready for some serotonin, and bring on the dopamine! We’re about to do some appreciating!
